Jeffrey Tambor to star opposite Harvey Fierstein in La Cage aux Folles

Six-time Emmy Award nominee Jeffrey Tambor (“Arrested Development,” “The Larry Sanders Show”) will make his Broadway musical debut as Georges opposite four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein as Albin in the Tony Award-winning revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES.  Tambor and Fierstein will begin performances on Tuesday, February 15 at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street).  Five-time Emmy Award winner Kelsey Grammer and 2010 Tony Award winner Douglas Hodge, the current stars of LA CAGE, will play their final performance on Sunday, February 13.

 

Jeffrey Tambor made his Broadway debut in 1976 in the comedy Sly Fox, appearing opposite George C. Scott and directed by Arthur Penn. He appeared in the New York Shakespeare Festival production of Measure for Measure that same year.   He has remained active in theater, directing Lanford Wilson’s Burn This at the Skylight Theatre in Los Angeles and acting and directing at many regional theatre companies, including the Academy Festival Theatre in Chicago and the Loeb Drama Center at Harvard and in plays by Shakespeare, Molière and Chekhov, as well as contemporary writers.   In 2005, he returned to Broadway in David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross, which won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance. Join tens of thousands of your closest friends this Sunday September 12 in Times Square when Kelsey Grammer, the Tony Award-nominated star of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES hosts “Broadway on Broadway” at 11:30 AM in the heart of Times Square.  “Broadway on Broadway” is the annual concert that celebrates the new season. Performances that day include the following:

  • ANYTHING GOES star Sutton Foster will talk about the upcoming new musicals of the season.

THE CBS EARLY SHOW, SATURDAY, JUNE 19

Kelsey Grammer, currently starring in his Broadway musical debut in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, will be a guest on CBS’ “The Early Show” on Saturday, June 19.  In the New York area, “The Early Show” airs on WCBS Channel 2 between 7:00 and 9:00 AM.  Check local listings.

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES recently made Tony Awards history as the first show to ever win the Tony Award three times for best production.   The classic musical comedy by Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein originally won six Tony Awards in 1984, including Best Musical.  A Broadway revival won two 2005 Tony Awards including the Best Revival of a Musical prize.  This year, LA CAGE won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, as well as Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical (Douglas Hodge) and Best Director of a Musical (Terry Johnson).
