LA CAGE star Kelsey Grammer on the CBS Early Show this weekend

THE CBS EARLY SHOW, SATURDAY, JUNE 19

Kelsey Grammer, currently starring in his Broadway musical debut in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, will be a guest on CBS’ “The Early Show” on Saturday, June 19.  In the New York area, “The Early Show” airs on WCBS Channel 2 between 7:00 and 9:00 AM.  Check local listings.

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES recently made Tony Awards history as the first show to ever win the Tony Award three times for best production.   The classic musical comedy by Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein originally won six Tony Awards in 1984, including Best Musical.  A Broadway revival won two 2005 Tony Awards including the Best Revival of a Musical prize.  This year, LA CAGE won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, as well as Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical (Douglas Hodge) and Best Director of a Musical (Terry Johnson).

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES won the 2010 Drama League Award for Distinguished Revival of a Musical this afternoon in a ceremony at the New York Marriott Marquis.

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES opened on Broadway to rave reviews on April 18.   The production has been nominated for 11 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Kelsey Grammer), Best Actor in a Musical (Douglas Hodge), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Robin De Jesús), Best Direction of a Musical (Terry Johnson), Best Choreography (Lynne Page), Best Scenic Design of a Musical (Tim Shortall), Best Costume Design of a Musical (Matthew Wright), Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Nick Richings), Best Sound Design of a Musical (Jonathan Deans) and Best Orchestrations (Jason Carr).    LA CAGE is the winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Actor in a Musical (Douglas Hodge), Outstanding Director of a Musical (Terry Johnson) and Outstanding Costume Design (Matthew Wright).  LA CAGE has been nominated for seven Drama Desk Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical.

NOMINATED FOR 11 TONY AWARDS INCLUDING BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL,
TO LAUNCH NATIONAL TOUR IN FALL, 2011

The critically acclaimed production of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, which this week was nominated for 11 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, will launch a National Tour in the fall of 2011.  The tour will feature the work of the production’s entire Tony-nominated creative team: director Terry Johnson, choreographer Lynne Page, set designer Tim Shortall, costume designer Matthew Wright, lighting designer Nick Richings, sound designer Jonathan Deans and orchestrator/musical supervisor Jason Carr.  Further details for the National Tour will be announced soon.
The tour will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, David Babani and Fran and Barry Weissler.
