Jersey Boys is fabulous in Fort Myers

JERSEY BOYS

IS FABULOUS IN

FORT MYERS, FL

The Fort Myers, FL engagement of the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award winning musical JERSEY BOYS received rave reviews at the Barbara B. Mann PA Theatre where it opened February 19 (performances began February 17) and will play through March 7.  From there, JERSEY BOYS will play West Palm Beach’s Kravis Center March 10 through March 28.

FT. MYERS NEWS-PRESS
Charles Runnells of the Ft. Myers News-Press raves “Whatever you do, don’t call JERSEY BOYS a jukebox musical.  True, the hit Broadway show delivers one Four Seasons hit after another — all amazing, and all pretty much the way you remembered them (as Frankie Valli, actor Joseph Leo Bwarie even manages to hit all those hair-raising high notes).  But the term jukebox musical,’ for better or worse, has come to suggest all flash and no substance. And you’ll find plenty of substance in what’s currently onstage at Mann Hall in south Fort Myers.  In between the electrifying song performances, JERSEY BOYS creators manage economical-but-heartfelt snapshots into the legendary pop band’s rise and fall.  The story isn’t always a happy one — compare the giddy highs of the first act (the band’s glory years) to the somber lows of the second act (bickering and break-ups) — but it’s certainly an exhilarating ride. This is an expertly paced, expertly staged musical that deserves all its hype and awards.  I’ve never seen an audience react quite the way they did to this show. When ‘Sherry’ comes toward the middle of the first act, it’s like the theater has flipped a switch. Suddenly, the audience comes alive with gasps and applause — at least 10 seconds of it, in fact.  This is great theater — period.”

NAPLES NEWS
Jeff Lytle of the Naples News raved
“Just got back from seeing JERSEY BOYS.
In a word, wow.
Wow, wow, wow, wow.
The music, singing, staging and story were amazing.
Wow.
This cast has done the show a zillion times, and they made it seem as if it were the first and last performance they would ever do.
This is fairly difficult music and they made it look easy.
Fresh, exciting, wow.”

Jersey Boys is marvelous in Memphis

JERSEY BOYS IS

MARVELOUS IN

MEMPHIS

The Memphis engagement of the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award winning musical JERSEY BOYS received rave reviews at the Orpheum Theatre where it will began performances January 27 and will play through February 14.  From there, JERSEY BOYS will play Fort Myers, FL’s Barbara B. Mann PA Hall February 17 through March 7.

COMMERCIAL APPEAL

Christopher Blank of The Commercial Appeal raves “If JERSEY BOYS can’t get the job done here in the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, then Broadway may as well stop making musicals out of pop songs. It’s not just that the show, which tells the detailed and often tumultuous story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, is a knock-yer-socks-off hit production.  No, the real genius of  JERSEY BOYS becomes apparent at the end, when you’re invariably participating in the standing ovation. And you ask yourself, ‘Why does this show make me so happy?’ The set is a skeleton of chain link fences and Jailhouse Rock stairs and platforms; most of the characters are felonious, foul-mouthed and flawed; and the story is as much tragedy as triumph.  How can all this possibly add up to a feel-good evening at the Orpheum theater?  Maybe those Tony Award voters who deemed JERSEY BOYS the best musical of 2005 were being generous to their neighbors across the river. Or maybe they were amazed that a musical can — ahem — walk like a man.  In an age when many throwaway pop singers prop up their music with spectacle or scandal, JERSEY BOYS reminds us why certain songs will still be bringing us joy for years to come.”

I LOVE MEMPHIS

I Love Memphis raves “The show is more like a rollicking concert than a Broadway musical. The super-energetic and fast paced show was almost solid music for the first ten minutes. Between (and sometimes during the songs), the four members of the band take turns as narrator. And because JERSEY BOYS is the story of a band, all of the songs fit naturally into the show and there’s no random bursting into song.  I was totally enamored with the cast, too. The actors (especially the ones who play the band) are wonderfully cast – fast-talking con man Tommy, angel-with-a-broken-halo Frankie, tightly wound Nick and lovably serious Bob (who looks like Mr. Schuster from Glee!) are all great fun to watch.  JERSEY BOYS will be at the Orpheum for three weeks (closing night is on Valentine’s Day). I highly recommend going to see it if you get the chance. It’s a fantastic, exuberant performance that’s a little irreverent, untraditional and completely fun.”  Click here to read the entire review:  http://ilovememphisblog.com/2010/01/28/its-a-sign-tommy-jersey-boys-at-the-orpheum/
