JERSEY BOYS MAKES A TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO BOSTON

JERSEY BOYS MAKES A TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO BOSTON

JERSEY BOYS, the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical, returned to Boston and received rave reviews once again  at the Colonial Theatre, where it opened Friday, December 17 (performances began Thursday, December 16) and will play through Sunday, January 30, 2011.  From Boston, JERSEY BOYS will play Baltimore’s Hippodrome Wednesday, February 2 through Sunday, February 27.

BOSTON HERALD

The Boston Herald’s Lauren Beckham Falcone writes “The boys are back in Boston – bringing the Tony- and Grammy-Award-winning musical to the Colonial Theatre – and audiences to their feet.  JERSEY BOYS shines, shimmies and sizzles on the stage.  The foursome playing the foursome is seamless, a pitch-perfect quartet of impressive pipes and emotional storytelling.”

BOSTON GLOBE

The Boston Globe’s Don Aucoin writes “Joseph Leo Bwarie’s performance as Frankie Valli goes beyond mere mimicry.  The Emerson College grad doesn’t simply channel Valli; he inscribes the role with a breath-catching artistry of his own as he soars, without seeming effort, into the upper reaches of the human voice.”

CAPE COD TIMES

The Cape Cod Times’ Gwenn Friss writes “Joseph Leo Bwarie, Quinn VanAntwerp, Steve Gouveia and Matt Bailey are extraordinary.  The singing is terrific and the show’s 10-piece band is perfect.”

THE BOSTON CHANNEL

The Boston Channel says “Jersey and Boston have a lot in common … proud, territorial, a wee bit arrogant and certainly not the least bit intimidated by the big cheeses in the Big Apple.  Broadway may have launched JERSEY BOYS, but when it swings into the Hub, it’s ours!  It’s built just like the songs it celebrates … catchy, clever, and heartfelt.  Joseph Leo Bwarie is a unique talent portraying a unique talent.  Bwarie’s singing is jawdroppingly good.  Matt Bailey as Four Seasons bad boy Tommy DeVito is pitch perfect as the loud mouth schemer who knows Frankie is his ticket out of the neighborhood.  Quinn VanAntwerp as Bob Gaudio, tall, rosy cheeked, and brimming with intelligence, he’s a force to be reckoned with on his own terms.“

BOSTON GLOBE

Joan Anderman writes “Jersey Boys succeeds on the stage thanks to the sharp, saucy writing of Marshall Brickman (who co-wrote “Annie Hall’’ and “Manhattan’’ with Woody Allen) and Rick Elice, crisp direction by Des McAnuff that infuses a constantly shifting narrative with clarity, stylishly understated choreography that’s potent rather than overblown, and – most of all – the irresistible tunes.”  Click here to read the entire review:

BOSTON HERALD

Jenna Scherer of the Boston Herald writes “The most spectacular thing about Jersey Boys, and what draws audiences like moths to a flame, is the incredible talent and stamina of its four leads. Belting out 30-odd choreographed songs every night, it’s just amazing to watch these fellow go. Bwarie’s Valli-like falsetto is impeccable, Bailey brings dangerous energy to DeVito and Gouveia nails the quiet, put-upon air of a bass player. Franklin has charisma to spare, and his Gaudio is the show’s most compelling narrator.  Just like the Four Seasons’ music, “Jersey Boys” goes down easy and will probably be around for a long time to come.”  Click here to read the entire review:

THE PATRIOT LEDGER

Iris Fanger of The Patriot Ledger raves “The audience alternately sat mesmerized or broke into cheering, as the music – loud, melodic, accessible, and memory jarring – engulfed the house. For those of us who counted out the years of our adolescence listening to these songs, it’s a journey back.  For everyone else, it’s an evening of sheer pleasure due to the stellar caliber of the professionals who packaged two hours worth of a theatrical high.”  Click here to read the entire review:

THE SUN CHRONICLE

Juliet Pennington of The Sun Chronicle raves “Jersey Boys lived up to the critics’ praise.  The cast was outstanding, the staging impressive and the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons uplifting and engaging.  There were many in the audience who weren’t even born when songs like “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “My Eyes Adored You” hit the airwaves.  But based on their clapping, toe-tapping and dancing throughout the show, and standing ovation at the end, it was clear that the music – and the story behind the music -moved both young and old alike.  It’s definitely a show not to be missed.”  Click here to read the entire review:  http://www.thesunchronicle.com/articles/2009/07/30/go/5396173.txt

Alicia Blaisdell of the Cape Cod Times and South Coast Today writes “Jersey Boys is a rollicking trip down memory lane.  The standing-ovation crowd clapped and sang ‘Oh, What a Night’ as they walked out into a humid Boston evening.”  Click here to read the entire review:

METRO US

Nick Dussault of Metro US raved “Every once in a while you get to see a show that’s so much fun you can’t wait to get home and tell everyone you know to buy their tickets right away.  Jersey Boys, the Tony Award-winning musical currently playing to packed houses at the Shubert Theatre, is one of those toe-tapping, shoulder swaying, sing-along (though not too loudly) good times you don’t want to miss.

When you leave the theater, it’s hard not to say ‘Oh What a Night!’”  Click here to read the entire review:  http://www.metro.us/us/article/2009/07/31/00/0852-77/index.xml
