BC/EFA’s 24th Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction Raises $476,917

24TH ANNUAL FLEA MARKET & GRAND AUCTION

RAISES $476,917

The 24th Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction held yesterday Sunday, September 26, raised a grand total of $476,917 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA).

Since its debut in 1987, which then raised $12,000, the 24 editions of The Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction have raised a grand total of $8,638,669 for BC/EFA.

The Flea Market and Grand Auction is an annual fair in which Broadway, Off-Broadway and other members of the theatrical community donate and sell their wares to benefit BC/EFA.  The event also included the Celebrity Table, where celebrities gathered throughout the day to sign autographs and pose for photos in exchange for donations.  The climax of the day was the Grand Auction in which truly unique and priceless items are auctioned off live to the highest bidder.

The event will be held outdoors in Shubert Alley and is free and open to the public. From posing with your favorite Broadway and Daytime stars for photos, to buying that lost cast recording, signed show posters and Playbills, rare costume sketches or special gift for a theatre-lover you can’t find anywhere – this year’s Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction promises to offer something for everyone.

Fire Island Dance Festival Raises $253,000 To Benefit DRA

SIXTEENTH ANNUAL FIRE ISLAND DANCE FESTIVAL

RAISES $253,000

FOR DANCERS RESPONDING TO AIDS

(July 19, 2010 – Fire Island Pines, NY) Fire Island Dance Festival, Dancers Responding to AIDS’ (DRA) signature event, celebrated its sweet sixteenth year in Fire Island Pines with an undisputed artistic and financial success. The three sold out performances drew record breaking crowds and raised $253,000 for Dancers Responding to AIDS.

This year’s festival, hosted by two-time Emmy Award winner Bruce Vilanch presented eleven dances by world renowned, established and emerging dance companies and choreographers.  The event, twice hailed by The New York Times as “the charity event of the season” was held on the weekend of July 17th in Fire Island Pines at the home of Jon Biondo, Tim Horman and Ryan Coutu, outdoors against a backdrop of the sun setting over the Great South Bay.

TWO TIME EMMY WINNER BRUCE VILANCH RETURNS TO HOST FESTIVAL FEAURING CUNNINGHAM, AILEY, MOMIX AND MORE

(FIRE ISLAND PINES, N.Y.) – Lauded by The New York Times, Out Magazine, CBS News on LOGO and The Village Voice, the Fire Island Dance Festival returns to Fire Island Pines for a trio of first rate outdoor performances and parties on Saturday, July 17 and Sunday, July 18, 2010. Now in its 16th year, Fire Island Dance Festival is the premier cultural event on Fire Island and is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA), a program of Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS. Returning to emcee the event for a second year will be two time Emmy Award winner Bruce Vilanch.

Performing outdoors against a stunning backdrop of the Great South Bay, FIDF 16 will feature an eclectic program of classical and contemporary ballet, and modern dance performed by eleven emerging and world renowned dance companies and artists.  This year’s festival will prove to be yet another unforgettable event with performances by: Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre principal Marcelo Gomes, Joffrey Ballet Chicago principals Fabrice Calmels and Erica Lynette Edwards, Camille A. Brown, Gallim Dance, Mark Stuart Dance Theatre and San Francisco Ballet principals Yuan Yuan Tan and Damian Smith performing choreography by Christopher Wheeldon.  FIDF 16 will also showcase a pièce d’occasion by Shea Sullivan, mark premiere dances by Travis Wall and Stephen Petronio Company and feature a “Legacy Tour” performance by Merce Cunningham Dance CompanyMOMIX will present a special performance as part of an exclusive festival kick-off party for Leadership Supporters only on Friday July 16.

Dancegoers are offered a choice of show times. The opening performance is on Saturday, July 17th at 5:00 p.m. (party at 4:00 p.m.).
