WILL CONCLUDE OFF-BROADWAY RUN
ON JANUARY 16, 2011
“This delicious deconstruction of Hitchcock’s classic film has been happily re-incarnated Off Broadway.”
– New York Times
Alfred Hitchcock’s THE 39 STEPS, the award winning long running comedy, will conclude its Off-Broadway run on January 16, 2011, when it will play its final performance at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). The production will have played 23 previews and 318 performances Off-Broadway and over 1,100 total performances in New York City.
THE 39 STEPS received its American premiere in September, 2007 at the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston. The Broadway premiere began previews on January 4, 2008, officially opening on January 15 at Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre. The show moved to the Cort Theatre on April 29, 2008 and then to the Helen Hayes Theatre on January 21, 2009. In total on Broadway, the show played for over two years and 771 laugh-filled performances, the longest run of any Broadway play in seven years. On January 10, 2010 THE 39 STEPS ended its Broadway engagement and moved to New World Stages where it has been playing since March 25, 2010.
THE 39 STEPS is currently playing in London and a successful year-long US national tour concluded in June 2010.
Alfred Hitchcock’s THE 39 STEPS, adapted by Patrick Barlow and directed by Maria Aitken, THE 39 STEPS is based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by John Buchan.
THE 39 STEPS features a cast of four actors who, against all odds, breathlessly and hilariously reenact all of the characters, locations and famous scenes in Hitchcock’s 1935 film thriller with just a few props and a lot of theatrical ingenuity and split second quick changes.
The cast features John Behlmann as Richard Hannay, Cameron Folmar as Man #2, Jamie Jackson as Man #1 and Kate MacCluggage as Annabella Schmidt/Pamela/Margaret. The production also features Greg Jackson and Elizabeth Davis.
Set and costume design is by Peter McKintosh, lighting design is by Kevin Adams and sound design is by Mic Pool. Original movement was created by Toby Sedgwick. Additional movement is created by Christopher Bayes. Production stage manager is Matthew Shriner.
