Jersey Boys Incredible in Indianapolis

JERSEY BOYS, the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical, received rave reviews in Indianapolis at the Murat Theatre, where it opened Friday, June 11 (performances began June 9) and will play through Saturday, July 3.  From Indianapolis, JERSEY BOYS will play Des Moines, IA’s Des Moines Civic Center Wednesday, July 7 through Sunday, July 25.

The Indianapolis Star’s Jay Harvey writes “You don’t have to have a memory bank stuffed with Four Seasons songs to have plenty to draw upon at JERSEY BOYS.  It’s a gripping piece of

theater that can connect with anyone who’s experienced work-life issues, even though they’re
probably not set to hit songs. Like so many American stories, it reminds us that however much we try to nurture the goose that lays golden eggs, it’s all too tempting to wring its neck.”

Gotta Go’s Elizabeth J. Musgrave raves “If you are fortunate enough to review theater long enough you will come across performances which sail above the majority. I have been that fortunate, on a few occasions, to witness the short list of shows setting a standard to which others strive to match.  Broadway Across America’s JERSEY BOYS is one of those shining stars. Four boys from the wrong side of Newark (is there a right side?) Walk Like a Man onstage at The Murat Theatre. The Tony and Grammy award-winning show hits every note and every emotion at full throttle and with an Italian-sledge-hammer intensity.  As a writer, you may find it strange when I say there are not enough words in Mr. Webster’s dictionary to explain the phenomenon going on at The Murat Theatre, so I will put it succinctly.  Bottom Line: DO NOT MISS JERSEY BOYS…for any reason. Lie, cheat, steal…whatever it takes…JERSEY BOYS is the one you do not want to miss for the 2009-10 season.”

Nuvo’s Rita Kohn raves “Shifting from the present into memory, it’s like a smart, witty, poignant conversation you’re having with the people whose recordings and concerts were a part of your life. The script’s multiple settings for “My Eyes Adored You” adroitly shows why (the then youthful) fans could personalize a song, and why now all these years later the connecting memory has meaning in our personal transformation from teen insecurities into functioning adulthood. The ovation is earned by the entire cast and crew who give 200%.”
