Kate MacCluggage is busy away playing the roles of Annabella Schmidt, Pamela & Margaret in Alfred Hitchcock’s THE 39 STEPS Off-Broadway at the New World Stages. She took a few minutes of her time to share with us her favorites here in NYC while not performing in the show. See what Kate had to say!

1. What Broadway show, book and movie are you recommending to friends these days?

As a shout out to Off-Broadway plays, since we are, too: I loved Our Town, Yank! and our neighbors Avenue Q and The Temperamentals.

I’m finishing up While They Slept by Kathyrn Harrison right now and it’s FASCINATING. I also tell everyone I know to read Sex, Time and Power by Leonard Shlain.

I just netflixed Shadows and Fog, which has like the most amazing cast and is totally theatrical and brilliant. I’m also recommending this great documentary about a family trying to make no environmental impact living in New York City called No Impact Man which is pretty cool.

2.What country (out than the US) would you most like to visit?
I would love to go to India.

3. What musical theatre character would you most like to be stranded with on a desert island?
For the survival: Tarzan. For the fun: Sally Bowles.

4.What your favorite NYC “hotspot”?
The beautiful actresses Jenny Mudge and Janie Brookshire recently introduced me to Raines Law Room, the “speakeasy,” on West 17th. It’s so classy and lovely. I’m also looking forward to summertime in Astoria Park.

5.What’s your favorite Alfred Hitchcock film?
A: Rear Window!!!! Jimmy Stewart is dreamy.

Alfred Hitchcock’s THE 39 STEPS is currently playing at the New World Stages/ Stage 1 (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues).

Adapted by Patrick Barlow and directed by Maria Aitken, THE 39 STEPS is based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by John Buchan.

THE 39 STEPS features a cast of four actors who, against all odds, breathlessly and hilariously attempt to reenact all of the characters, locations and famous scenes in Hitchcock’s 1935 film thriller with just a few props and a lot of theatrical ingenuity and split second quick changes.

Tickets ($89.50 – 69.50) are available through Telecharge at 212-239-6200 or online at www.telecharge.com.  Student rush is available for $27.50.   All prices include a $1.50 facility fee.  Performances are Monday, Wednesday – Friday at 8:00 PM, Saturday at 3:00 and 8:00 PM, Sunday at 3:00 and 7:00 PM.
