Playing the role of Man #1 in the Off-Broadway hit, ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S THE 39 STEPS, Jamie Jackson actually plays more than “one man.” However, Jamie did give us a little more of his “only” self as he did these Short Takes. Take a look at what Jamie Jackson had to say!

1. What Broadway show, book and movie are you recommending to friends these days?

I haven’t seen a lot on Broadway for a while, but I would highly recommend West Side Story – you can’t do much better than a Bernstein score, a Sondheim lyric and Laurents at the helm.

Books. I love Neil Gaman, and would highly recommend American Gods.

Movies? I recently watched Michael Moore’s Capitalism: A Love Story on DVD and would suggest it to anyone who wants to get mad – REALLY mad.

2. What country (other than the US) would you most like to visit?

Home – Australia. It’s been far too long!

3. What musical theatre character would you most like to be stranded with on a desert island? Why?

I’d like to be stranded with Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd. If she can make a tasty meat pie out of hapless barbershop victims, just imagine what she could do with a couple of old coconuts and a stray castaway!
Wait a minute… let me rethink that…

4. What’s your favorite NYC hotspot? (restaurant, bar, museum, neighborhood)

I love the new Brooklyn Bridge park at sunset. It’s nestled right under the Brooklyn Bridge and has a beautiful new rolling grassy hill from which to watch the sun sink behind lower Manhattan’s sleek glassy towers. You can also get the world’s best ice cream there at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory at Fulton Landing.

5. What’s your favorite Alfred Hitchcock film?

What an idiot, I am! I don’t really know many Hitchcock films – how embarrassing. I will have to say The 39 Steps out of pure ignorance.
My favorite line from that film is the one shouted by an old chap in the audience at the music hall. He calls out repeatedly, “What causes pip in poultry?” Apart from knowing how to scare the bejeesus out of us, Hitchcock also must have had a great sense of humor!

Alfred Hitchcock’s THE 39 STEPS is currently playing at the New World Stages/ Stage 1 (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues).

Adapted by Patrick Barlow and directed by Maria Aitken, THE 39 STEPS is based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by John Buchan.

THE 39 STEPS features a cast of four actors who, against all odds, breathlessly and hilariously attempt to reenact all of the characters, locations and famous scenes in Hitchcock’s 1935 film thriller with just a few props and a lot of theatrical ingenuity and split second quick changes.
