2009-2010 DRAMA DESK AWARD NOMINATIONS

Nominations for the 55th annual Drama Desk Awards, celebrating excellence in Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-off Broadway, were announced this morning.

A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE has been nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Play (Christopher Walken).

BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS has been nominated for Outstanding Revival of a Play and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play (Santino Fontana).

EVERYDAY RAPTURE has been nominated for Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Sherie Rene Scott), Outstanding Book of a Musical (Dick Scanlan & Sherie Rene Scott), Outstanding Orchestrations (Tom Kitt) and Outstanding Sound Design in a Musical (Ashley Hanson, Kurt Eric Fischer & Brian Ronan).

FENCES has been nominated for Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play (Chris Chalk), Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play (Viola Davis) and Outstanding Music in a Play (Branford Marsalis).

HAMLET has been nominated for Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Actor in a Play (Jude Law), Outstanding Director of a Play (Michael Grandage), Outstanding Lighting Design (Neil Austin).

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES has been nominated for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Actor in a Musical (Douglas Hodge), Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Robin de Jesús), Outstanding Director of a Musical (Terry Johnson), Outstanding Choreography (Lynne Page), Outstanding Costume Design (Matthew Wright), Outstanding Sound Design in a Musical (Jonathan Deans).

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC has been nominated for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Angela Lansbury).

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET has been nominated for Outstanding Musical Revue.

NEXT FALL has been nominated for Outstanding Play (Geoffrey Nauffts) and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play (Sean Dugan).

THE ORPHANS’ HOME CYCLE received a special award to its cast, creative team and producers and for Outstanding Actor in a Play (Bill Heck). 

RAGTIME has been nominated for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Christiane Noll), Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Bobby Steggert), Outstanding Director of a Musical (Marcia Milgrom Dodge), Outstanding Choreography (Marcia Milgrom Dodge), Outstanding Orchestrations (William David Brohn), Outstanding Set Design (Derek McLane), Outstanding Costume Design (Santo Loquasto)and Outstanding Sound Design in a Musical (Acme Sound Partners).

RED has been nominated for Outstanding Play (John Logan), Outstanding Actor in a Play (Alfred Molina, Eddie Redmayne), Outstanding Director of a Play (Michael Grandage), Outstanding Set Design (Christopher Oram), Outstanding Lighting Design (Neil Austin), Outstanding Music in a Play (Adam Cork).

THE ROYAL FAMILY which played at Manhattan Theatre Club this fall, has been nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Play (Jan Maxwell).

SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM has been nominated for Outstanding Musical Revue.

TIME STANDS STILL which played at Manhattan Theatre Club this spring, has been nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Play (Laura Linney).

A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE has been nominated for Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Actor in a Play (Liev Schreiber) and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play (Scarlett Johansson).

WISHFUL DRINKING has been nominated for Outstanding Solo Performance (Carrie Fisher).

Not for profit company nominations:

ROUNDABOUT THEATRE COMPANY productions have been honored with seven nominations including five for EVERYDAY RAPTURE, one for SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM and one for WISHFUL DRINKING.

SIGNATURE THEATRE COMPANY’s production of Horton Foote’s The Orphans’ Home Cycle was honored with a special award to its cast and creative team and a nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Play (Bill Heck). 

MANHATTAN THEATRE CLUB productions have been honored with two Drama Desk Award nominations including one for THE ROYAL FAMILY and one for TIME STANDS STILL.
