Guthrie/Berkeley’s Tiny Kushner slated for London’s Tricycle Theatre

GUTHRIE THEATER/BERKELEY REPERTORY THEATRE’S

TINY KUSHNER

SLATED FOR LONDON’S TRICYCLE THEATRE

MINNEAPOLIS CAST BEGINS PERFORMANCES IN UK ON SEPTEMBER 1

(Minneapolis/St. Paul) The Guthrie today announced that its highly successful production of Tiny Kushner is scheduled to play London’s Tricycle Theatre (producers of The Great Game: Afghanistan) from September 1 – 25. The evening of short plays by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner premiered at the Guthrie on May 20, 2009 as part of its landmark Kushner Celebration and went on to a critically acclaimed run at Berkeley Rep. Long-time Kushner collaborator and Berkeley Rep Artistic Director Tony Taccone again directs the production, which features four Guthrie favorites – J.C. Cutler (Macbeth), Kate Eifrig (9 Parts of Desire), Jim Lichtscheidl (The Two Gentlemen of Verona) and Valeri Mudek (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) – performing multiple roles in five works by Kushner.

Lauded by critics in its Minneapolis premiere, Variety hailed Tiny Kushner as “a slam-bang series of five plays providing kaleidoscopic windows into the recesses of the artist’s fertile mind,” and said “Director Tony Taccone’s cast pulls together as a charged ensemble, eliciting laughs and instances of electricity that spark without drawing easy conclusions.”

“It’s enormously gratifying to us that our Theater is becoming the birthplace for exciting new work, showcasing the Guthrie as a center for theater arts in this country,” Guthrie Theater Director Joe Dowling said. “This show has been on wonderful collaboration with Tony Kushner, Tony Taccone and the Berkeley Repertory Theatre and I’m thrilled that the collaboration continues at Tricycle Theatre.”

The creative team for Tiny Kushner will again include Annie Smart (Set Designer), Anita Yavich (Costume Designer), Alexander V. Nichols (Lighting and Video Designer), Victor Zupanc (Sound Designer) and Marcela Lorca (Movement).
