“Rebeck’s ‘The Understudy’ is a raucously funny farce and masterpiece of comic clockwork.”  – Terry Teachout, Wall Street Journal

Off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) is proud to present the New York premiere of Theresa Rebeck’s new comedy The Understudy, directed by Scott Ellis featuring Mark-Paul Gosselaar (TNT’s “Raising the Bar”) as “Jake”,  Justin Kirk (Showtime’s “Weeds”) as “Harry” and Tony® Award winner Julie White as “Roxanne”.

The Understudy opened officially on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street).  This is a limited engagement through Sunday, January 3rd, 2010.

The design team includes Alexander Dodge (Sets), Tom Broecker (Costumes), Kenneth Posner (Lights), Obadiah Eaves (Original Music & Sound).

The most thankless job in theatre takes center stage in Theresa Rebeck‘s new look at the underbelly of the acting world. Through the course of a dress rehearsal, we glimpse all the genius, bitterness and ridiculousness that underscore a life in showbiz.
