JESSICA HYNES PLAYS ANNIE

Actor:              Jessica Hynes

 

Role:                Annie, Norman’s sister-in-law, and one of his intended conquests.  Annie spends her days caring for her bedridden harridan of a mother, for her siblings Reg and Ruth (who is Norman’s wife).  When Norman’s plans for a weekend getaway with Annie are discovered, the household is thrown into chaos. 

 

Credits:            Hynes is a major comedy star in the UK, having created, co-written and co-starred in the popular series, “Spaced,” for which she won the Best Female Comedy Newcomer Award at the British Comedy Awards in 2000. 

 

                        She was nominated for the BAFTA Best Actress Award for the film Tomorrow La Scala and was nominated for the 2003 Best Performance in a Supporting Role Olivier Award for The Night Heron at the Royal Court.

 

Her other theatre credits include The Plough and the Stars and Fiddler on the Roof, both directed by Matthew Warchus at West Yorkshire Playhouse.  TV: “The Royle Family” and “Doctor Who”. 

 

Her film credits include Son of Rambow, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Shaun of the Dead. 

 

Trivia:              She started her career using her maiden name of Jessica Stevenson.   Early in her career, she was part of a comedy double act called The Liz Hurleys with her future “Spaced” co-star, Katy Carmichael.

More:               The Old Vic production of THE NORMAN CONQUESTS, a comedy trilogy by Alan Ayckbourn, directed by Matthew Warchus, is now in rehearsal in London.  The production begins performances on April 7 at Circle in the Square Theatre (235 West 50th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue).  Opening night is Thursday, April 23.
