ARTHUR MILLER PLAY STARS

JOHN LITHGOW, DIANNE WIEST, PATRICK WILSON AND KATIE HOLMES

DIRECTED BY SIMON McBURNEY

Arthur Miller’s ALL MY SONS starring John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Patrick Wilson and Katie Holmes will end its limited engagement as scheduled on Sunday January 11.   Directed by Simon McBurney, the hit production recouped its capitalization in December, and was named to numerous Top Ten lists for 2008.

Time Magazine called it “a vibrant new staging: stylized, hyperbolic and altogether riveting.”  Time Out New York said it was “a bold modern spin” on the Arthur Miller classic.   NY-1 News included it in their Top 10 Broadway Shows of the year, as did Newsday, which called it “a daring, wrenching and dreamlike revival of Arthur Miller’s eerily fresh 1947 drama.”  The Bergen Record included it in their lists of The Year’s Highs on Broadway and Entertainment Weekly included Katie Holmes in theirBest Hollywood Stage Debuts of 2008.”

ALL MY SONS began previews on September 18 and opened on October 16 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, 236 West 45 Street.  This production of ALL MY SONS marked the first posthumous Broadway staging of an Arthur Miller play.

The production set a record for the weekly gross of a play ($739,653) at the Schoenfeld Theatre, which also marks a record for all Broadway plays this season.

The cast of ALL MY SONS also features Becky Ann Baker, Christian Camargo, Jordan Gelber, Danielle Ferland, Damian Young, and Michael D’Addario.

Critics raved about the production: The New York Times said, “John Lithgow and Patrick Wilson are electric.” Variety called it “a commanding illustration of the power of theatre,” and the London Guardian called it “A play for Obama’s America.” The New Yorker said, “It’s a stretch to imagine anyone doing a better job than Simon McBurney does here.”  The New York Post called it “a powerfully acted revival with a starry cast.” Newsday said “John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest are shattering.”  The Associated Press said, “Katie Holmes has a striking presence.”

Arthur Miller’s first successful play, ALL MY SONS won the Tony Award for the author in 1947 and ran for 328 performances on Broadway.  Miller took his inspiration from a true story about a successful business man who knowingly sold the government defective airplane parts during World War II with tragic consequences.  The truth comes out and his life unravels when his son prepares to marry his business partner’s daughter.

Design for ALL MY SONS was done by Tom Pye (sets and costumes); Paul Anderson (lights); Christopher Shutt  and Carolyn Downing (sound); Finn Ross for Mesmer (projections) and

Paul Huntley (wigs and hair).

ALL MY SONS is produced by Eric Falkenstein, Ostar Productions, Barabara H. Freitag, Stephanie P. McClelland, Scott Delman, Roy Furman, Ruth Hendel, in association with Hal Luftig, Jane Bergère, and Jamie deRoy.
