LAByrinth Theater Company, (Co-Artistic Directors Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Ortiz and Executive Director Steve Asher) will present “The Worst of Bogosian: Solos, Speeches & Rants circa 1980 to 2000” a special event written and performed by Eric Bogosian.
This limited engagement will have just four performances June 12, 13, 14 at 8pm and June 14 at 10:30pm in the Martinson Hall at the Public Theater (425 Lafayette Street).
All tickets are $25 and go on sale Wednesday, May 30. There are three ways to purchase tickets: by phone at 212.967.7555 online at www.labtheater.org; or in person at The Public Theater Box Office. Box office hours are Sun-Mon 1-6pm, Tues-Sat 1-7:30pm.
Eric Bogosian will perform a set of monologues from his repertory of OBIE award-winning solos, including Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee, Drinking in America, Pounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead and FunHouse, which he first premiered on the same stage at the Public Theater in 1983. This will be Bogosian’s first New York performances of his acclaimed solo work since the run of his last solo Wake Up and Smell the Coffee in 2000 at the Jane Street Theater. His most recent performance was in June 2006 at the Act Alone Theatrefestival in Isafjordur, Iceland.
These performances will replace the previously scheduled This Is Now! collaboration between Eric Bogosian and Elliott Sharp, which has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts. This is a special performance for three nights only to benefit LAByrinth Theater Company. All proceeds will go to the theater to continue their work.
Eric Bogosian is best known for his solo work and for his play and film, Talk Radio (currently on Broadway starring Liev Schreiber directed by Robert Falls). Bogosian wrote and starred in the original production (at the NYSF) and the film, directed by Oliver Stone. Bogosian is also the author of several plays, including subUrbia, presented originally by Lincoln Center Theatre and restaged this past fall by Second Stage Theater. He collaborates with his wife, Jo Bonney, the original director of most of his solo work. His other plays include, Humpty Dumpty (McCarter Theater); Red Angel (Williamstown Theater Festival), Griller (The Goodman), 1+1 (LAByrinth’s Barn Series). Bogosian is also the author of two novels, “Mall” and “Wasted Beauty”, both published by Simon & Schuster.
Bogosian currently stars in the television drama, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”, as “Captain Danny Ross”. He has starred in films as varied as Steven Segal’s Under Siege II and Woody Allen’s Deconstructing Harry and Atom Egoyan’s Ararat. He is the recipient of three OBIE Awards, a Drama Desk Award, the Berlin Film Festival “Silver Bear”, two NEA Fellowships and the Guggenheim Fellowship. He lives in New York City with his wife and two sons.
