Jersey Boys Gets A Royal Welcome in Raleigh

JERSEY BOYS

GETS A ROYAL WELCOME

IN RALEIGH

The Raleigh engagement of JERSEY BOYS opened to rave reviews on Friday night, June 26 at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, where it will play through July 18, 2009. From there, the national tour will play Boston, MA July 23 through September 26, 2009.

RALEIGH NEWS AND OBSERVER

Roy C. Dicks of the Raleigh News and Observer raves “JERSEY BOYS is sure to entertain!  There are good reasons why the Tony Award-winning musical JERSEY BOYS is in its fourth year on Broadway, and they’re present in the highly polished national tour here for Broadway Series South.  The first, of course, is the music. Those of a certain age who count the singular sound of the Four Seasons as part of their dating/mating rituals (and they filled Memorial Auditorium on Friday night) will get their money’s worth from these first-rate voices, led by Joseph Leo Bwarie’s laser-beam falsetto as Frankie Valli (Graham Fenton plays Valli matinees and Sunday evenings).  Josh Franklin as Bob Gaudio, the hit-making songwriter of the group, matches Bwarie in confidence and vocal talent (especially in his solo turn in “Oh What a Night”) and offers a winning stage presence.  Matt Bailey’s Tommy DeVito and Steve Gouveia’s Nick Massi round out the quartet, infusing the foursome’s numbers with foot-tapping zing (and causing a lot of involuntary sing-alongs throughout the evening).  Click here to read the entire review:  http://www.newsobserver.com/105/story/1588613.html

TRIANGLE ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

The Triangle Arts and Entertainment raved “JERSEY BOYS puts the ‘Energy’ in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts this summer!  The Broadway production was recognized with multiple Tonys and a Grammy in 2006.  Having seen the production in New York during its opening year, it deserved every award.   If there were a Tony Award for a touring company, the cast performing at Raleigh’s Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts through July 18 would win multiple times over!  Click here to read the entire review:  http://triangleartsandentertainment.org/?p=1541

CLASSICAL VOICE OF NORTH CAROLINA

Robert W. McDowell of the Classical Voice of NC writes “Oh, what a show!  When Broadway Series South booked the much-ballyhooed national tour of JERSEY BOYS for a four-week run at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, expectations were stratospheric — and this explosive backstage musical about Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons exceeded them.  Indeed, there are more fireworks onstage than there are in a typical Fourth of July celebration.  JERSEY BOYS is fabulous and the harmonies are always heavenly.  Don’t miss it.  Click here to read the entire review:  http://cvnc.org/reviews/2009/062009/JBoys.html

The cast of JERSEY BOYS is lead by Matt Bailey (Tommy DeVito), Joseph Leo Bwarie (Frankie Valli), Josh Franklin (Bob Gaudio), original Broadway cast member Steve Gouveia (Nick Massi), with Jonathan Hadley and Joseph Siravo.

JERSEY BOYS opened at the August Wilson Theatre on Broadway to critical acclaim on November 6, 2005.  The JERSEY BOYS National Tour opened to rave reviews in San Francisco on December 1, 2006, played a record-breaking run in Los Angeles and is still breaking house records in cities across North America.  There are seven current productions of JERSEY BOYS:  New York, London, Chicago, Las Vegas, Toronto, a US National tour, and Melbourne, Australia, opening July 4, 2009.

JERSEY BOYS is the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi. It’s a journey of how a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide – all before they were thirty.

The JERSEY BOYS design and production team comprises Klara Zieglerova (Scenic Design), Jess Goldstein (Costume Design), Howell Binkley (winner of the 2006 Tony Award® for his Lighting Design of JERSEY BOYS), Steve Canyon Kennedy (Sound Design), Michael Clark (Projections Design), Charles LaPointe (Wig and Hair Design), Steve Orich (Orchestrations) and Ron Melrose (Music Direction, Vocal Arrangements & Incidental Music).

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of JERSEY BOYS was produced by Bob Gaudio, and was recently certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The cast recording is now available on Rhino Records. JERSEY BOYS: The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons (Broadway Books) is the official handbook to the smash Broadway hit.
