OF SHARING STAGE WITH FOUR DIFFERENT KING ARTHURS
Monty Python’s SPAMALOT will welcome returning Tonyâ and Olivier Award nominee Marin Mazzie and new cast member Wally Dunn to the Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street). Mazzie will reprise her role as ‘The Lady of The Lake’ while Dunn will assume the role of ‘Sir Bedevere’ on Tuesday, June 17.
In a matter of weeks, Mazzie will achieve the rare distinction of having starred opposite four different King Arthurs in two different shows. Mazzie returns to SPAMALOT after starring as ‘Guenevere’ in the New York Philharmonic’s recent production of Camelot (opposite Gabriel Byrne). Prior to that, Mazzie starred in both the Broadway (opposite Jonathan Hadary) and London (opposite Peter Davison) productions of SPAMALOT as ‘The Lady of the Lake.’ Starting June 24, Mazzie will appear with her fourth King Arthur in less than a year when Emmyâ nominee Stephen Collins joins the Broadway company.
Dunn joins the Broadway company of SPAMALOT after playing the role of ‘Sir Bedevere’ in the show’s national tour. He previously appeared at the Shubert Theatre in the recent production of Gypsy starring Bernadette Peters.
Mazzie and Dunn will appear opposite Tony Awardâ nominee Jonathan Hadary who plays King Arthur. Hadary, Mazzie, and Dunn are joined by Tom Deckman, Rick Holmes, David Hibbard, Bradley Dean, and Robert Petkoff.
Starting Tuesday, June 24 Emmy Awardâ nominee Stephen Collins (”7th Heaven”) and Grammyâ nominee Drew Lachey (”Dancing With The Stars”) will join the Broadway company as ‘King Arthur’ and ‘Patsy’ respectively.
SPAMALOT won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical, the 2005 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical, and the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Musical. The musical was recently was honored with three Broadway.com Audience Awards including Favorite Long Running Musical.
SPAMALOT features a book and lyrics by Eric Idle, music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, direction by Mike Nichols, choreography by Casey Nicholaw and is based on the screenplay of Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Monty Python creators Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, with an entirely new score with two songs from the 1975 film and the Python classic “Always Look On The Bright Side of Life” from 1979’s The Life of Brian.
In addition, to the Tony Award for Best Musical, SPAMALOT received the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical (Mike Nichols) and Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Sara Ramirez).
